What are CAT Tools?
CAT tools (Computer Assisted Translation or Computer Aided Translation) are assisted translation's softwares that help the translator to speed up the translation process and to ensure consistency within a project. These tools are an essential aid for the translator, especially in technical fields. Unlike machine translation's softwares, i.e. automated translation, CAT tools are just a support and never replace the translator in the translation process.
What is a TM, i.e. a Translation Memory?
A TM is a database where all translated segments are stored. In very long projects, working with a TM allows to keep consistency with what has been previously translated and to have therefore a high quality translation.
